WORSHIP SERVICE AND CHILDREN'S CHURCH - JULY 7, 2024

This Sunday, Pastor Brian Pinson will deliver the second part of his message entitled "BUSYNESS IS NOT BLESSEDNESS".  This message is based on Luke 10:38-42 about the story of Martha and Mary, the two sisters of Lazarus.  Both sisters loved Jesus dearly and believed He was the Messiah they had waited on so long.  However, in this record, Jesus visits their home and Martha quickly begins preparing food for the group, as was the Jewish tradition for women of the household.  When Jesus begins to teach, Mary chooses to sit at Jesus' feet to listen to His words.  Martha becomes very angry because Mary is not helping her and she, in display of her sinful human nature, confronts Jesus.  Jesus responds gently, telling her that she is anxious and troubled about many things, recognizing her distractions.  He tells her that Mary has chosen the good portion by hearing His words, something that no one can ever take from her.

Part 1 tells us that "social obligations never outweigh spiritual priorities" and that "serving comes after worship".  Martha's choice to fulfill "perceived social obligations" conflict with Mary's choice to pursue the necessary one thing ... hearing the Word of God and spending time with Jesus in prayer.  The key component for every Christian's life is to have their Godly priorities properly set.  Jesus Christ must be first and foremost ... above all else ... or all else will fail.

Life can present us with so many distractions; even things with good intentions can draw us away from Jesus, and sometimes causing us to make wrong choices.  Our top priority must be our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Spending time with God in prayer and reading and studying His Word gives us everything we need ... we become rightly motivated to do God's will, knowing what His will is, and getting His blessing for our acts of service.  This week's message will conclude with the point that "blessings hinge upon choices".  Jesus must be the first priority at all times.  Our ever-growing relationship with Him is a necessity for us to be obedient to His will in our service for Him.  Our worship of Him must come before our service for Him.
